1
Before day one
- Create all accounts (email, core systems, communication tools) and verify they work before the person arrives.
- Prepare their device with standard configuration, security software, and required applications pre-installed.
- Set appropriate access levels based on their role: least privilege by default, with a clear process to request more.
2
First day essentials
- Walk through device setup, password manager enrolment, and multi-factor authentication activation.
- Deliver a brief security orientation: phishing awareness, acceptable use, and who to contact if something seems wrong.
- Share links to key documentation: internal wiki, IT support process, and self-service password reset.
3
First week follow-up
- Check that all systems are working and the new starter can access everything they need for their role.
- Introduce relevant training resources: recorded walkthroughs, scheduled sessions, or self-paced guides.
- Collect feedback on the onboarding experience so you can improve it for the next person.
